Overseas work pressing forward

Whilst the weather has been good in England this spring, the climate on the Mediterranean coast in Spain has been fantastic. Our team have been pushing on with a large drainage contract out there, installing pipes into what are now very dusty soils.
The land that’s being drained will be used to grow high-value salad crops this autumn, which ultimately will end up on our plates back here in the UK over the winter months. The operation is a completely new venture for the farmers in this part of Spain, which has caused considerable interest from the locals who can’t believe that we are looking at ways of removing water from the arid soils there.
However, Spanish authorities have been working hard to improve the ditch systems out there in preparation for the torrential stormwaters that flow across the region after the scorching summer ends. These rainfalls are the cause of considerable problems to farmers in this part of Spain as they struggle to harvest their valuable crops in soils that are completely saturated.
