Latest Trenching Machine is Delivered in Time for Harvest

Thursday 29, July 2010

This week we have welcomed the arrival of a brand new trenching machine direct from the Mastenbroek factory in Lincolnshire.  The machine has been purchased in addition to our existing fleet of drainage machinery and has primarily been ordered to ensure that we can continue to provide our clients with land drainage services at optimal timings – particularly within the post harvest window.

The trenching machine incorporates some of the very latest technologies within its makeup. In particular, this highly specialised machine comes fitted with the sophisticated ‘Sink Control Aid System’ which ensures that land drains are laid at perfect gradients – even in ground which contains unstable and soft subsoils – such as peat or running sand.

All of the trenching fleet at William Morfoot Ltd are fitted with Aid Systems which are a costly extra to install on top of the machine itself.  The use of the Aid System technology underlines the company’s commitment to placing quality machinery and workmanship at the forefront of our working philosophy as well as part of our ongoing efforts to continually deliver a superior service to all of our clients.

The machine has been put to work straight away, draining around 60 acres of land which has just had the Oilseed rape crop harvested from it over the last few days.  The landowners will be looking to crop the field with wheat in early September and so the need to get the drainage work done before the cultivations and drilling operations commence is key to ensuring that next year’s wheat crop gets off to the best possible start.

The drainage work is taking place on a field which has consistently delivered significantly below average yields and has caused major problems with regard to equipment getting stuck during late autumn and spring spray and fertiliser applications.  The investment in a new drainage system on the field will now release the full yield potential of the field allowing significantly higher returns on a year on year basis.
