Climate Extremes Water Management and Looking Ahead to 2012

Climate Extremes Water Management and Looking Ahead to 2012

20th December 2011

We've had an intense drought in the spring, the warmest November on record plus a total annual rainfall that's 230mm below where it normally is on average. These extremities in the weather have given us plenty to look at over the course of this year.

Many of our customers are already looking ahead to 2012 and our surveying teams have been busy looking at new land drainage schemes for both the spring time and even after harvest next summer.

Our clients have commented that the land drainage work we have done for them over the course of 2011 has been completed in the best possible ground conditions imaginable and some clients are looking to bring forward their planned drainage works in the early part of 2012 to take advantage of the good going.

One repetitive theme that has continually arisen from our clients this autumn is the need to manage water resources wisely as these extreme weather patterns show no sign of abating.

The need to drain water off the land in extreme wet periods and apply water back onto the land through irrigation and reservoirs in a drought time has seemingly never been greater. Considerable thought is going on across many agribusiness this winter to look at ways at which this situation can be managed going forwards.

At William Morfoot Ltd we continue to successfully tackle a broad spectrum of water management related projects including land drainage, ditching & watercourse management, reservoir construction and irrigation main installation.  If you are looking to undertake any of these projects in the coming months, why not give us a call and see how we can help you?

We wish you all a very merry Christmas and best wishes for 2012.
